Nissan Leaf visits Raleigh

On a cold, windy Friday in January Nissan's new all-electric "Leaf" made a one day appearance on Raleigh's City Plaza. This is the one and only Leaf that is outside the Nissan factory and no one could touch it, much less drive it. But this car is supposed to be identical to what will actually go on sale in late 2010.

The Leaf uses Lithium-Ion batteries to deliver a 100-mile range. Under a hatch up front are two charging sockets: a 220V socket and a special "fast charge" socket. Charging takes eight hours at 220V, but can reach 80% charge in 30 minutes with a special 3-phase high voltage charger. Click any photo to see a larger image.
