EV Challenge 2002

2002 EV Challenge

Final Event: April 25-26, 2001

The EV Challenge’s high school program takes place over the entire school year and strives to involve the whole school and surrounding community. Beginning in the fall, students begin learning about advanced transportation concepts as part of their regular curriculum. Throughout the year, students complete numerous activities such as performing oral presentations for community groups, conducting environmental research, and writing articles for their local newspapers, and converting a gasoline vehicle to electric power. A typical school may involve students from math, auto mechanics, physics, environmental science, engineering, electronics, journalism, English, speech, business, drafting, art and other classes.

Students earn EV Challenge points for their efforts as part of a year-long competition. Each spring the students come together to learn from each other and compare their work at the Final Event in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The EV Challenge provides schools with educational workshops, technical support, curriculum materials, grant funding, and product discounts.

The high school program began with three schools in 1993 and has grown to include 33 schools from approximately nine states in the 2001-2 school year.
